Conflict and Infrastructure Risk Map

An interactive map that plots danger hotspots, recent infrastructure incidents, and every major cloud region against an organization's own sites.

The problem

Risk to data and compute is physical. Decision-makers need to see where their primary and backup sites sit relative to conflict zones and recent incidents, not just read a score.

What we built

A linkable map page with toggles for hotspot regions, sourced incidents (strikes, cable cuts, fires, and grid outages), and AWS and Google Cloud regions colored by risk tier. Users can mark a primary and backup site and share a link that carries their own view.

How it works

All map data sits in one data file, so updates are a single edit. Every incident links to its source and carries a Verified or Claim label.

What we learned
  • [Analysis] Physically separating a backup from the primary site only helps if the backup is outside the same risk tier.
  • [Analysis] Keeping incident data current is the hard part; the value is in the update discipline, not the map itself.
